Whispers

Whispering voices just beyond the edge of reason,
rising to the surface quietly asking,
"Do you remember?"
"Did you know when?"
Locked in a world of confusion,
remnants of who I really am,
who I used to be,
or who I may become.
I listen to those voices
whispering the truth.

Voices used as a metaphor. This works quite well. As poets we are seeking the truth.........................

Oooh, I like this one. It's so deep and so thoughtful. This is something that could keep you awake at night thinking about it. I'm looking forward to it. Awesome poem

It still has got me thinking... the voices BEYOND reason have the truth, kinda makes one question the substance of reality... so what can't be real? you know?

You must like Jim Morrison, and of you don't read his poetry, you really should. This reminds me of him, and Syd Barrett... "voices just beyond the edge of reason..whispering the truth" I must really read some more of your stuff. Thanks for posting.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting on this piece....yes, I guess I am influenced by Jim Morrison's era, although I never really thought about it that way. I came of age in the late sixties/early seventies...hence the angst of delving into what we cannot see.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
