    Wonder or Whole Wheat

White bread, all soft and gooie,
    so good to eat
I tear the crust from the edges
and mold the center to what I want,
    what I think I need.

    My lover, aloof and handsome,
so very pleasing to the eye
I dig down deeper and find
    nothing
    nothing worth keeping

Now, whole wheat, that's something else.
    Course, and slightly crunchy,
it leaves a sweet aftertaste that nourishes
    the body.

    My soul knows the difference,
why can't my mind catch up?
I'm hungry for a good substantial bread....
