    A Longstanding Compromise

Yes it has been some time since I have written
    Since last I wrote
Did you receive the shards of glass I sent last month?
I hadn't the time to attach a note
To express the intensity of those droplets
Red splashing white, the room service nightmare

    Are you cold there?
I cannot imagine you would be
With all of the sunshine and tourists and cocktails
Not one of the three of them good for the soul
    Imagine us on the balcony
And now, imagine again, without me

This is getting to be greedy
    You not wanting a thing
I should never have left Havana last year
I knew the day would come
When the hotel bombings cease to be pleasing
The romance wears thin and the outrage begins

Did I mention that I have been getting some help?
The therapist forgets my name every week
And I forget how many bottles of rum
Since last we argued the details and causes
I lost this when I entered the circle.
You know how it goes... don't say it aloud
The crowd presses ever mainstream more these days
Away from once won triumph small
However tiny those days in the making
A mountain of justice shouldered in anguish

The rain pouring always remembers your tender
The breeze that envelopes your steadfast and strong
Your captured, arrested, tested, and sentenced
The freedom conspiracy flagged and forgotten

Just one more always and then not
The bottle is empty the table stained bleeding
Always I knew we never could win
Now that we're older as plain as the daylight

Always I knew that never returning
Was best for the both of us underground ghosts
I hope I bleed to death this time
    You should see someone too.

    This is staggering. ....

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
