    Apparition

As I see her from across the room
    Eyes full of black,
She beckons me with a smile
As my heart skips for a moment
    I don’t understand why
But I can feel her gaze
Yes feel it, like nothing ever before
It pulls at my soul, down to the core
    What could this be?
    Who could this be?
And why is she staring at me?

In this room full of people, I seem to be the only one that notices her
How could someone that looks like her,
Go unnoticed even for a second?
    I simply don’t know.
Is she smiling or just playing with me?
I can’t seem to understand what is happening to me.
The room we are in is like any other place in the world where you go and have a few drinks, I guess.
Wood floor, dirty seats, crappie tables, you know, a real nice place.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
