    Ever Long

I am awake, you are sound asleep,
The sun and earth, in your dreams…you will reap.
The sun will come up for you, just like yesterday.
In the dark all alone, here I stay.

How many miles,… how many light years away?
Over the hills and far away.
I can only see you in the kaleidoscope,
    And in my dreams,
Twisted into a mirage is my only hope.
My smile being tattered at the seams.
    Along with all… and everything

Find myself longing for another day.
Somewhere far from here, another way.
What I’ve deemed, what I’ve seen the things that blind my dreams.
Overlooking the things that kill me slow,
The one friend that I have come to know.

Stop this feelings shuttering through me,
Lost so loud… the way I try not to be.
Showing love, but what has become of me?
Nothing much the way I have to be.
    Blasting slowly through the night.
    Awake, alone,… but not lonely.
I have me, to stay with me.
    Through this ever

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
