Poem Commentary

This is a copy of an original piece that I posted earlier.  When I showed this site to my sister, she reminded me that I had left out 4 lines from when I wrote it in 9th grade.  I also tried to revise some of the lines for fluidity.

Betrayed (The complete)

BETRAYED

You betrayed me,
I couldn't see.
I trusted you,
and what did you do?

To me you had lied,
I Believed YOU when you cried.
I was betrayed,
Yet still I stayed.

For you I was believing,

Through all of the deceiving.

I stayed with you the whole way through,

It wasn't something I thought you would do.

And now you must know,

That I trusted you so.

For you the rules I would bend,
Because I was your friend.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
