By The Way

I could tell right away by the way she held her eyes
She felt the same way that I did it was love at first sight
In a room full of people I could always feel her there
She was an angel sent from heaven, the answer to my prayers
She'd pick up the phone and call me without much to say
Only that she was missing me and "I love you by the way"

Love was a given not something we had to say
Just a simple understanding an "oh and by the way"
You know that I love you darling what else is there to say
I can't wait to see you my love grows more for you each day
We had an understanding greater than words it was an
"Oh and by the way"

A simple understanding carried us almost ten years
What I thought was understanding was hidden hopes and fears
Now a few unspoken words turned love into regret
And I will always be haunted by the words I left unsaid

I could tell right away by the way she held her eyes
There was something missing and much to my surprise
She said "I'm sorry but I don't love you anymore"
I felt my heart breaking as she walked out the door
We had so much left to do there was so much left to say
I felt our love dying and so much now had gone by the way

Love was a given not something we had to say
Just a simple understanding an "oh and by the way"
I wonder what would have happened if I had said it anyway
She might still be here and our love would not be gone by the way

hi well its a nice wrok but, your meter is way off and it scrambles the flow too many words in some lines not enough in others, count syllabels to remedy this also rhyming with the same words isnt allowed lol the sentiment is spot on though. but the stanzas are confused as well, i did like it.

The meter is off intentionally between stanzas. This is a song and requires differences in meter between the verses and the chorus/ bridge.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
