    Carried Away...

    Carried Away...
    Phread, 2008

    She met him
    and got carried away
    on the wings of love
to a place she never knew before,
    a place she called paradise
    and happily ever after…
    A place she called home.

    Until the harsh, controlling words
    entered her bliss,
    followed by the blows
    that came more often,
    turning paradise into hell,
    but still she remained,
    hoping to be carried away
    once again…

    But one day,
    he got carried away
with blows he could not stop.
He beat the life out of her,
    and she got carried away
    on the wings of angels,
and what was left of her
    got carried away,
    put in the ground,

    but she is now home…

Phread, This poem certainly could be a banner for domestic violence. The poems' intention is peace and love , its outcome violence and death. You are masterful at juxtaposing these two themes. ty ginga

What a wonderful portrayal of domestic violence. You manage to reach the reader and maintain a level of interest throughout the entire piece. Thank you for sharing a truth, that many wish to ignore. Great job!

A sad but beautiful tale. I know because I have lived with a father who beat his wife, and it is sad to watch this goes on. But instead of her being carried away, he was carried away, and she is still with us. Thanks for sharing this with us Phread, and check out my new postings on this site.

Thanks for your comments, Tom. Abuse of any kind is always a sad thing...

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
