On Wings of Green
On Wings of Green
Phread, 2005
So, the other evening,
I was sitting in the dusk
just thinking about you and me
and where life has taken us…
when a bright green bug
lit on the back of my hand.
This beautiful bug
so fascinated me
that I let it stay there
and just beheld it…
My thoughts went to you
for no real reason, since
what does a beautiful, unusual
insect with green wings so much
bigger than its slight body
have to do with you?
I watch it move now
my eyes burn from trying
to focus every ounce of me
on my new, green, winged friend…
My vision blurs a bit as I see its
finely netted mirror-image wings
and I place it gently on the table…
He rests, reminding me
it is almost time to go to sleep.
And my thoughts go back to you,
So I reach my hand out to stroke your face
I whisper my voice into your dreams
and salty tears merge into salty waves
waves I hope you will soon crest…
I turn the lamp light off
and realize I may never see my
insect friend again …
So, I finally understand
what the oddly beautiful insect
has to do with you,
my love...
