Condemned?

Condemned?

Trapped within the claws of past existence, why won’t it go away.

The deception of freedom is just a tease.  You know it’s just a play.

As you’re balanced so precariously upon this cruel lifes limb;

How can others have comprehension of the places only you have been.

Though they’ve disappeared without a trace, you feel their presence still.

You here them deep into the night, your held against your will.

There’s no escape.  You’re here to stay.  You feel there’s no way out.

Can you live or love or fight them.  Is there a means to quench the doubt

Of your silence, as you cry in prayer, that your mind will stay ashore.

Considering what life’s brought till now, will it submerge just like before.

Down to that dark and lonely place, where sanity is a dream.

And deep inside that ocean, only your muted soul can scream.

Is there love that’s pure; not conscientious, greedy or vain?

Who is strong enough take you, and can stand when your insane?

That knows what you really are, a beast with no conscience in your heart.

Who longs desperately to be human. Was it even likely from the start?

Trained from birth to take the task, be it kill or buy or trade.

The price was not the important, so long as you were praised.

Is there hope for me?  Can I possibly be, worth any love, God has to give.

I don’t think so; but maybe if I try, I can love enough to be the bridge.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
