Cries of an Insomniac

                   Cries of an Insomniac

As the day comes to an end
the sun sinks into the horizon.
Shadows on the wall are my only friends
my nightly struggle to slumber has begun.
I ly in my bed tossing and turning,
fighting with my comforter and sheets.
Unable to close my eyes they start burning,
I find myself longing for just one nights sleep.
I try everything I know to drift into slumber.
Warm milk, counting sheep and evening hummimg to myself.
After all of my endeavors i can't help but wonder,
is my health causing the insomnia or is the insomnia draining my
health.
Just as I start hearing the song birds outside,
I feel the weight of the sandman's dust closing my eyes.
I know I have but minutes to sleep,
light fills my room as up the sun creeps.

Sleep is the cleanser that scrubs our minds and brings renewal to the day. Nice.

I appreciate the revelations in your poems. Life without love....well, it's no fun. I hope you have children. They are a great source of strenght and purpose. Keep writing!

Thank you for taking the time to read my piece. I'm glad that you liked it. I do have children and grandchildren, if I didn't have them with the loss I've been through I don't think I'd still be here. My grandchildren are my strength and joy. I hope that you may like other works of mine. I wish you well with your future endeavors. Thanks, Kyma63

We've all been in this place at one time or another and I think you have really gotten the essence down. Our mind's full and it won't shut off. Well written.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
