    Daddy

How can we say you left us
When, in our hearts we feel you here
Some things we did and time we spent
Are memories we hold so dear

Your laugh remains just in our minds
And we can - no longer touch you
For this, our hearts are heavy now
Yet still we feel your love so true

So many stories you would tell
About your fun of younger years
Your family life back on the farm
And yet you never told of fears

Even though you had your problems
You never showed they got you down
    An inspiration for us all
When life is tough... try not to frown

    Husband, Daddy, and Grand-Dad too
So much you cared for all of us
Your strength and comfort always there
To let you go is so unjust

Now "we can't love you anymore"
And back to you the way you wished
"But we can't love you any less"
Than when you lived among our midst

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
