    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem after receiving a particularly harsh letter yesterday. After a pretty much sleepless night I awoke and looked out the window, and it is Minnesota in the spring. The letter was a critique of a story I wrote, (and we all know) that can be bad, at least, for some of you, in the past.

    DIFFERENT, AND SPRING

    How differnet everything is.
When I look outside my window,
    and see the flowing river
as it curves around its bend,
    going under the bridges,
to the sea covered in green trees
with the flowering crab apples blooming.

    How different everything is.
Everything seems right with the world,
    even when you feel devastated.
The leafless trees and frozen river
now show life and in vibrant color.
    Saying everything to me,
    renewal and so much more...
    (Like being reborn in Jesus)

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
