Dreams

I lay awake thinking of dreams
But all I get is haunted screams of a past that isn't easily forgotten unlike my heart cold and rotten, but none of this is what it seems.

 For I am not real
And I can't feel
The past is gone away
I live for another day
I wish my past I could kill
For in the dream
And in the scream
Lies the secrets that no one knows
But thats always how it goes
Because I'm not what I seem
I am hate
I am fate
I am trust
I am lust
But in the endI am hollow
I never wanted them to follow
I am not a leader
I am not a cheater
But this bullshit I must swallow

I can't get free of this
All because of a kiss
I'm ready to be nice
Like a razor blades slice
When I'm gone I wont be one to miss.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
