Freedom from self

  • Hello fellow poets. I am originally from a very small very remote town in the woods of northern Maine. The town had a population of 560 souls.I was brought up( in what some would consider to be) abject poverty. If I was I never knew it. Simply due to the fact that everyone around me was in the same "boat".I have been writing from my teens. I enjoy the woods to this day. I hunt fish and hike whenever possible. And through the years I've learned that there is a God and that I'm not it. "SLIM"

Poem Commentary

This is for the friends of Bill W.

Freedom from self

Once a bitter,anguished soul
That dwell in an abyss
Steeped in self-delusions
That nothing was amiss.

Glutted on self-pity
Nurtured on falce pride
With fear my soul companion
In whom I could confide.

I had no God to guide me
No Angle heaven sent
For all had now forsaken me
Least that was my lament

I had a myriad of excuses
It was them! Not I the liar!
For was it not life its self
That cast me in the mire?

But all the while, was my addiction
That kept me from the truth
For it has no sence of mercy
nor clemency or ruth.

Now prayer my only refuge
I fall on shaking knees
A scroundrel seeking mercy
I ask Him humbly "please"

And sence that day on humbled knees
The miricals have past
I walk now with the living
A free man long at last.

So join me now I beg you
If you hunger to be free
And your miricals will happen
Just as they did for me.

I sensed the overwhelming joy of spirituality and moral upliftment in your lines, they're so inspiring...

I am pleased you liked it. Thank you!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
