Season's pass

  • Hello fellow poets. I am originally from a very small very remote town in the woods of northern Maine. The town had a population of 560 souls.I was brought up( in what some would consider to be) abject poverty. If I was I never knew it. Simply due to the fact that everyone around me was in the same "boat".I have been writing from my teens. I enjoy the woods to this day. I hunt fish and hike whenever possible. And through the years I've learned that there is a God and that I'm not it. "SLIM"

Season's pass

As the sluggish days of summer
Abate there sultry hold
The long cool  nights of Autumn
Are commencing to unfold

The day's are getting shorter
While longer are the nights
Birds by the thousands
Begin there southern flights

Trees take on there Autumn coats
Of orange and umber brown
Soon they will have shed them
A blanket for the ground

Another season comes to pass
And so the story goes
Summer bows out gracefully
To the fall of winter snows

One of the better times of the year...to some, that is. I like everything about this one, Slim..........the color, the sounds, and the way you used these tools to create a special rhyming piece...

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
