In a Field of Flowers

Poem Commentary

I actually wrote this one as an interpretation of the ending of a video game that is absolutely my favorite of all time.

In a Field of Flowers

In a field of flowers I stand,
Waiting for you to take my hand.
You made a promise to me,
To meet me here if need should be.
So here I stand, awaiting your hand,
To comfort me in my time of need.

I called out your name,
But you never came.
I searched all around,
But you weren't to be found.
Then one day I came across a barren land,
And you were there, a dying man.
Lying there upon the ground,
Was where you were, dying to be found.

Looking at you, I began to cry,
Not sure what I would do if you died.
I took you into my arms and held you,
And said three words, "I love you,"
As tears began to fall from my eyes,
Like drops of hope from two grey skies.

With three little words you were saved,
And a second chance at life, to you, the gods gave.
So here we stand, hand in hand,
In this field of flowers, spending together the passing hours.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
