    Memories of Jimmy

    Memories of Jimmy

    By Robert C. Ells Jr.

You were the keeper of the music,
    both popular and obscure.
You would always let me in,
when I’d knock upon your door.

    Breakfast time at “Christine’s”
    would always be a bash.
When I would say to Billy,
    "Wreck me two with Hash!”

The Friday nights we spent together,
will live forever in my heart.
I had no idea that in ten year’s time,
that we would have to part.

You introduced me to Vinnie P,
a great DJ and truly cool ass guy.
And now you are together again,
on that roller coaster in the sky.

    Your “Meehanisims” stick with me,
    like “Crappy, Stiff and Trash.”
And then there’s “Barely Man Enough”,
    which always made me laugh.

Your face is like a picture,
    still fresh within my mind.
I thought that you’d be with me,
for much longer of a time.

You were like the older brother,
in my life that I never had.
You would always cheer me up,
    whenever I was feeling sad.

So now you’re gone and I’m alone,
leaving an emptiness inside of me.
I pray to God that you are at peace,
wherever your immortal soul may be.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
