Poem Commentary

"Love is not love which alters's when it alterations finds..."   Shakespeare

Memory

I once let you go because I had no choice,
That was until recently --one day I heard your voice.

You came back to me but for only a minute,
I  let my guard down and my head went spinnin'.

Though  I never stopped loving you, I just kept on going,
Because I know I had to...even without knowing.

Out of due respect we never put up a fight,
We  just did what we had to; which was right.

Then the years they came and the years they went,
Without even realizing how much time was spent.

I used to find myself wondering what  may have been,
If things were any different--way back then.

Your memory never left me--you stayed in my mind,
But that will have to be enough--you were my once in a lifetime.
