Mother's Day

Poem Commentary

Ok. So this really isn't a poem as much as my personal reflections. Which is what most of my writing is. I'm not really sure if it is suited for this site but I don't know of any personal essay websites and I love to share my thoughts. Please feel free to leave comments. Feedback is always appreciated. Thanks.

Mother's Day

To the mothers in my family :

Every one of you has touched my life in some way. Your kindness, caring, patience, and joy of life affect not only your own kids but the people all around you. Look at your children. Whether they are growing or grown, they are your shining stars. They have learned and loved and grown because YOU stand beside them every day of their lives. They show us compassion and character because YOU are their example for these things. They are funny and friendly, intelligent and charming, sensible and creative, and all things in between because YOU believe they can do anything. My wish for all of you is that you hold your head high today. Your kids are greatest accomplishments. For those who have not heard today, they love you so much. And so do I.

To my friends who are mothers :

Some of you I have known since we were children ourselves. I wonder sometimes if your parents look at you with your husbands and you babies and just think, " WOW! Did I really raise such beautiful, caring, children? Where did time go? " I think that they do because I believe that you look at your own children sometimes and wonder the same thing. We have all grown up together. And time has passed in what seems like the blink of an eye. And whats truly amazing is that all of those wonderful things about you , the things that made me love you when we were kids , are still there. We have learned and we have grown but those special things that make you you are still there. And you are passing them on to your children. That means a whole new generation of people like the ones that made my life special. That is truly incredible. I am so proud of you.

To the mothers of my friends:

Thank You! Those are the best words I can find and they don't seem like nearly enough. Thank you for the many many reasons I've had to smile or laugh and the good times I've shared. Thank you for the shoulders I have had to cry on. Thank you for the arms that held me when I needed to be held and the open hearts that loved me. Thank you for the ones you raised who have played such an important role in my life.

To my own mom: I miss and love you every day. But you know that. You are with me every day. I will strive to live, and love, and make you proud until the day we meet again in the glorious presence of our lord and savior. I love you always.

To all mothers everywhere: You are my heroes. Enjoy your special day. Happy Mother's Day

with love, respect, and admiration,

Jennie

This is a really sweet Jennie...I know I love my momma!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
