    Not This Time

    Not This Time

I closed my eyes and drew breath slower, deeper.
I sighed a sigh drenched in tears
    Felt swelling to the chest,
    And muscles eased

And in my mind a thousand silent movies played
    You stopped, turned
And with the glow of your smile a new fire burned
    Two weak to sustain
A wave of warmth filled with promise
    At least for that moment

And as your silhouette grew smaller
And the red sky began to give way
    I drew breath slower, deeper
Just one plea whispered as if you might hear
Just one tear rolled down to reach the dusty ground

And when I couldn't see your frame anymore
The one that I had once caressed so diligently
Or your face which had conveyed to me
A barrage of confused, intricate beautiful thoughts
    I sighed once more

    Tired, resigned, relieved
    One more tear
    Many more held back
    No more questions

    There had been no harvest
    There would be no banquet

Really beautiful write, a little sad, and deep. Talented

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
