    One More For The Road

    One more for the road,
My heart carries a heavy load,
Trying to kill all the pain,
And there's no one else to blame,

Cause I have loved her for so long,
But I have loved her all so wrong,
Didn't mean to make her cry,
If she'd give me one more try,

Now I walk down this lonely road,
My heart feels like it will explode,
Nothing can stop me from thinking,
So I just keep on drinking and drinking,

The jukebox plays our favorite song,
Where did everything go so wrong,
Leaves me feeling so damn empty,
I'll just have me another whiskey,

Shes done said that we were through,
There was nothing that I could do,
I guess I broke our marriage though,
All ways thought her love would flow,

I know my woman has her pride,
If she was only still by my side,
My baby has left and gone away,
And I just sit here drunk again today,

Now I have paid a heavy price,
She no longer wants me in her life,
    Sitten here drunk and ashamed,
I guess my drinking is to blame,

Well I'm feeling like a big ole toad,
When a prince is what she was owed,
It's getten late and I need to go,
I'll just have one more for the road.

The saddest part about this piece is that your woman could never compete with your mistress. No matter what she does she'lltaste as good or be more intoxicating. My poem dragon pretty much sums up what it must sometimes feel like.I remember a time when whiskey was my morning coffee.but my world crashed down, and life changed. I still love tthe taste of a godd champayne,,but I also learned that life is so much sweeter and and on a higher plane, without that. you ar open honest and sweet. keep writing.

A very emotionally stimulating piece and sadly, it holds true for many. However, love is built of two and is not always one sided when it no longer exist betwixt the two.

Vince - Most of us can relate to this in one way or another. I think that alcohol can be both our saviour and damnation. It's a catch 22. Daned if we do - Damned if we don't. The same goes for our emotions - we strive to please the ones we love and sometimes end up unintentionally hurtin their hearts. They leave us and we try to drown our sorrows and hide behind the false prophet Alcohol.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
