Romance & Facebook

This poem describes todays' teenage romance in a somewhat humorous way :)

Romantic
Do you know the happiness I feel every time you talk to me?
And your beautiful smile - do you know I see it every night in my dreams?
Would you believe it takes me forever to build enough confidence to compliment you?
I always love hearing how you're doing - what you've been up to.
I know I shouldn't, but I get jealous when I see you talk to other girls.
What? Do I think I should be the most important person in your life?
It's always a weird feeling when we're in the same room but we don't talk to each other.
But it's probably my fault - you usually are the one to start the conversation.
I always try to look my best when I know I'll see you.
I hate when the time comes to say goodbye, but I know it will only be a matter of time before
I hear you laugh and see
Your smile.

And now the sad Facebook reality
Do you know the happiness I feel every time you pop-up on me?
And that smiley emoticon - do you know I see it every night in my dreams?
Would you believe it takes me forever to build enough confidence to comment on your profile picture?
I always love checking your status.
I know I shouldn't, but I get jealous when you write on other girls' walls.
What? Do I think I should be #1 on your Top Friends list?
It's always a weird feeling when we're both online but we don't chat.
But it's probably my fault - you usually are the one to pop-up on me.
I always Picnik my profile picture so I'll be "prettier" for you.
I hate when the time comes when one of us must log off, but I know it will only be a matter of time before
I see you type "lol" and see that
Smiley emoticon

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
