Poem Commentary

Not everything is what it seems is the moral of this poem. In other words DON'T judge a book by its cover because everyone has secrets.

Running Waters

Look into the future,
See the past,
Feel emotions bombarding you from every direction.
At the end of the day it's all the same.
My mind running in a thousand different directions,
Never slowing down.
The one thing that soothes me is the sound of running water.
The water calms and soothes
Washing the tension and stress away.
It runs freely.
I want that freedom.
Freedom from the problems of a world who is obvlivious of me.
a world who would see me as a witch.
Freedom from everyones problems but my own.
I never asked for my gift,
It was freely given,
I will freely give it back when God calls for it.
It can be a blessing and curse.
I consider it both.
The running waters are the only thing that soothes this gift.
Be careful there are other like me.
We can crawl into your head and sense dark secrets.
We know what you feel.
We can even tell who you really are deep inside.
You can't hide from us.
Most of us chose not to use our gifts.
Those who do then we endure a lonely life.
Hiding our true selves from others.
Fearing discovery,
Fearing insanity,
Enjoying the sounds of the running waters which soothe and cleanse.
Be careful what you wish for it may not be what you want.

You've composed a truly interesting piece, here. It almost reads like a publisher's statement of intent. You seem to lay out (your protagonist's) philosophy of life, but it seems to be peppered with quite a few "ifs ands and buts". i don't thonk I've ever seen anything quite like it... and that's saying something. : )

I have my way of looking at things. I write differently than most poets write and I think sometimes that hurts me. I look at life through a different spectrum than most people do and I try to live life to the fullest. I am different and I know I am different and it suits me . I like shrouding myself in mystery but it does come with consequence like in the poem. I live a lonely life. I am engaged and do have a family. but I can't share certain things with them that I would like to so I put it into poetry. Thank you for your comment. It means alot.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
