Poem Commentary

I wrote this in response to lionlamluv's Battered Rains...

Shelter; Jenifer's Song

She stands in the rain, by herself unalone,
Heart flooding, unwavering,
Feels defeated, like a stone,
Her bond is unbroken but is his even there,
Shivering now, calling out,
Just Love me! Don't you Care?

Then a carriage approaches, following two dark steeds,
An eerie door opens, reluctantly spoken,
Take my hand, come with me,
Together we'll ride, through the pain to the sun,
No more sorrow, no tomorrow,
I'm your fate, I'm the one,

Ten years have gone by and I still think of the day,
I watched you go, did you know,
It's alright, I'm okay,
Still I wonder what if, by myself, all alone,
As the dreams call and the snow falls,
To my heart like stone,

I'll carry this cross until the day that I die,
How I loved you, but then let you,
Run away on that night,
I should have given you my heart,
Gave you shelter, took your pain,
Yet I stood far apart.
I gave up,
Loved in vain,

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
