Poem Commentary

This poem was written just after my mother passed on.  I just wanted the world to stop for a minute and grieve with me... but no!

Surreal

Surreal

Like being a character

in a painting by Salvador Dali...

I have been walking around in a daze.

Everything seems O...

so surreal!

A fog of sorts...

like a dream....

I can't put my hand on

quite how it seems.

Melting time pieces

draped over large

wooden benches....?

Perhaps.

But everything around me

seems to be the same...

what I have come to know as normal.

My World came to a

sudden stop a week ago today

and yet....

people still go on...

the world still rotates...

Sun still shines

and the moon still rises.

But yet, it seems so surreal.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
