The past holds a comfort still

  • I don't write in structure. I don't write often. I write when and how I feel.

The past holds a comfort still

The past holds my mistakes,
The past holds my regrets,
The past holds what might have been.
My past is a long and twisted road,
With hills that were mountains,
Mountains that were hills.
I had a love,
I had a life,
I had a friend.
I lost her,
I lost him,
I almost lost me.
I will make right my mistakes,
I will make right my pains,
I will never hold you again.
You broke me down,
You lied to me,
You laughed because it was fun.
With all this said I ask of you, please,
Why do I  want you still?
Why do I long feel you in touch and taste?
Why do I ache to you smile?
Gone now are you from me!
My heart laid in tatters and you laughed.
You laugh harder as I try and rebuild.
Will you still laugh when I say YOU LOST?!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
