The Unheard Cry
How can we stand byAnd watch time tick
As the world slowly seems
To drift away?
How can we stand by
And act like we don't care
As childhoods become a privelege
And not a given?
How can we stand by
And pretend not to see
The children that live in fear
When they should be worry free?
How can we stand by
And watch the five year old
Who comforts the thirty year old
Be the adult
Instead of the child?
How can we stand by
like we're made of stone
Stare at the cruelty of today
And not be cracked in two?
How can we stand by
And not be stripped to the heart
As countless families are left
faded, broken, torn apart?
How can we stand by
And not shed a few tears
Or even just one, once
For the teen, the adult
That goes through life
With their hearts as frozen stones?
How can we stand by
And not call out to those
Whose life is a facade
And not call them back
To what is real?
How can we stand by
And say we care
But yet, we move not
As our feet are planted still?
How can we stand by
When the time has come
To stand by no more?
How can we stand by
When it's something
We can no longer afford?
How can we stand by
When through the endeavors of life
We CAN fight
And, hand in hand
Take that first step as one?
How can we DARE stand by?
