Top of the Mountain
From the top of the mountain
To the bottom of the pit,
I may have stumbled,
But I couldn’t quit.
I’ve given up some things,
And lost all I had.
I try to be happy,
But mostly I’m sad.
I analyze the past,
And all I’ve done wrong.
The answers are allusive,
But the heartache is strong.
I’ve been down the road,
That most couldn’t go.
What I have learned,
I may never know.
Some days are hopeless,
And others I feel good.
I wonder if I’m doing
All that I should.
Humbled beyond
Anything I believed.
With all I’ve learned,
I’m still not relieved.
I’ve always heard,
That life isn’t fair.
So why does it matter,
And why should I care.
Perhaps it’s my journey,
That leads to the throne.
One I must travel;
And too often alone.
From the top of the mountain
To the bottom of the pit,
Salvation awaits those
Who don’t know how to quit.
