True meaning

Hurry, hurry try to get things done
I feel no holiday spirit.
Where did it go?
Rushing, rushing to get gifts
People pushing, pulling, showing their worse
No time, no time, mine, yours, his, hers
no worry on the meaning its lost
I stand in the mist of it all realizing I am part of this
Why did I get these gifts?
 Will they truly care?
Then I se myself in a window, holding bags in the crowd
People all around bumbing into me with no sorry, or excuse me
They become shadows of time as I stare
My life flows before me, more holidays, years
Then my vision focuses on a holiday were a small face looks up to me
and fo innocently asks, "What was the first Christmas gift?"
How could I have forgotten,
the most important thing that brings us all together,
Families coming home
with all the hurring, rushing and having no time,
I had forgotten that which is most important
My vision clears
the window is not a window to a store, but a church
In the window a beautiful angel with that all knowing smile
stands over The Nativity with the most precious of gifts.
How could I have let the true meaning of Christmas slip thru my hands?
With all this I realize this Christmas I will give gifts from my heart.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
