What Is A Poet
D Jackson, 070509
I wonder if I belong here
I’m somewhat out of place
My lyrical mind meanderings
Here amongst such poet’s grace
Inside my head is dancing
With melodies here and there
While crafting stories into form
Hoping to make them clear
But, then I read the others
Who’ve made this place their home
Setting down such majestic words
As brilliant as any may come
My pittances of rhyme with reason
Riding melodically to their ends
Somehow don’t compare at all
To these wordsmith miracles penned
Perhaps I’ve made a bungle
Lit down in a world of sages
Masters of such wordy wonders
Their stories float off pages
Then again, I start to think
Just what's a poet’s goal
But, make a story come to life
In any damned way it’s told
Noone knows if music lies
Within Hell’s fiery pits
But, who could imagine what it’s like
In Heaven’s halls without it
So, I think I’ll hang around
And, be a poet’s reflection
Whittmanize my words to eyes
With music as my direction
I wonder if I belong here
I’m somewhat out of place
My lyrical mind meanderings
Here amongst such poet’s grace
Inside my head is dancing
With melodies here and there
While crafting stories into form
Hoping to make them clear
But, then I read the others
Who’ve made this place their home
Setting down such majestic words
As brilliant as any may come
My pittances of rhyme with reason
Riding melodically to their ends
Somehow don’t compare at all
To these wordsmith miracles penned
Perhaps I’ve made a bungle
Lit down in a world of sages
Masters of such wordy wonders
Their stories float off pages
Then again, I start to think
Just what's a poet’s goal
But, make a story come to life
In any damned way it’s told
Noone knows if music lies
Within Hell’s fiery pits
But, who could imagine what it’s like
In Heaven’s halls without it
So, I think I’ll hang around
And, be a poet’s reflection
Whittmanize my words to eyes
With music as my direction
