I know a place around the edge of night which is quite fair
Where ships sail out on fireflies
    And bats carry the air
Of pumpkin queens and lighthouse beams on things that aren't quite there
    It isnt in your dreams

But I can take you if you will
Come with me around the wall and over the third hill.
Where you may find the darkest night
    That binds reality
For sometimes there in dreams we can see what really ought to be

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
