    Poem Commentary

    Friendship is the greatest bond, beyond that of a mother and her child; next to that with which we have with God. Which is the theme of this poem...a friendship, or, relationship with Jesus is greater than none other. I pray this comes true for you...too.

    A Friend from Within

    Met a man today,
      not much did He say,
    shed a tear of dismay,
      He spoke in an unusual way.

    To me He said,
      "cry, if your heart needs bled,"
    below me, a pool of red,
      a question in my mind, "was I dead?"

    He gave me comfort and care,
      all His love with me He'd share,
    He was so just, so fair,
      a friend from within; so rare.

    With me a tear He wept,
      safe, my heart and soul He kept,
    through the strife I slept,
      (by Him) away, my troubles were swept.

    Another of your beautiful poems, "saved" in my personal favorites. What year did you write this poem and the one about Gram Brown ??? I like to "date" everything... :) Its the Gram Brown "in" me ; )

    A Friend from Within was written in 1985, while I was in the Air Force, at McChord AFB, Tacoma, Washington (state). The one about Gram Brown, "Master Piece," was just written a week ago (or so).

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
