    Poem Commentary

    This is a funny little poem...my very first (ever). The title did not come until only a few years ago...which, coincidentally, so did the second stanza. I just added it because it seemed like the first part of the poem was unfinished (for some reason). The second part is more humor than love, but I thought it up and decided to include it anyway. PS: the title - First Time Love (French)

    Primera Tiempo Amour

    To you is this time,
      that I may recite this rhyme;
    to you, whom I like best,
      may you enjoy the rest;
    I have these feelings of love in my heart,
      may you bring them out, and give me a new start;

    your name might be Lorraine, or possibly Jean,
      with eyes of royal blue, or hunter green;
    for now my love I will keep hid,
      seventy years gone, still like a kid;
    your hand in mine, bright shining smile,
      sit here with me, for just a little while;
    no speaking, no hugging, nor even a kiss,
      simply your presence...what I miss.

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww - this is super special & sweet. I can feel your love & admiration for a sweet young Lady. I am thrilled at the honor of READing your very 1st poem.. Right from the start, you've had the Gift :)

    I always thought this one was way too silly to ever do anything with. I memorized it and would recite it to people, if I ever thought they'd not puke. The latter portion I added, because when I wrote the poem I used to stare at the back of Lorraince Massey's pretty head (at her hair). Every once in a while she' turn around to ask me a question and I'd think the world was going to end. Then, in 1999/2000, a lady named Jean came into my life. Jean and (eyes of) green seemed to work well together, thus the remainder of the poem was born.

    Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
