    all my hate

    i regretted the words
the instant they fell from my lips-
    that moment before you heard
    such hate filled prose,
    i pled for the hope
that maybe you hadn't understood me.
your eyes darkened, your lips opened to speak
    but only silence emerged.
you listened to my stunted speech
    rip apart your fragile heart;
as my teeth tore pieces of your flesh
    from the bone.
your eyes changed again, becoming brighter-
your surprise, forgotten for a moment,
turned to anger, sharp as razors
that threatened to slice my chest
    and expose my heart.

i was afraid of you and for you and with you
until all the love we once had
    was lost amid the torrent
    or our hateful words.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
