    Poem Commentary

Sometimes saying your sorry is a hard thing to do.

    Apology

    As dirty as I am,

    you see a clean slate.

    You know my past.

    I redirect my convictions to

    your former actions.

    I’m dark, twisted, and foul.

    It lives deep inside me.

Yet I reflect my foul perspective

    to your life.

    The life you once knew.

The life you say doesn’t compare to

    a double standard.

    My remorse is your pain.

Your pain is my hunger for more.

Then my present comes to pass.

My dark and twisted self leaves

    my emotional state of mind.

    I’m sorry.

This poem flows well, but I just couldn't feel the remorse the speaker refers to. It seems kind of empty, like the speaker is so wrapped up in his/her self loathing to truly feel the remorse for causing another pain. Instead the remorse seems more like regret for a life of poor choices which is not the same.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
