Arise Sweet Child

Arise Sweet Child

Arise sweet child dawn is breaking, day’s begun

Arise and take flight,

Let flesh and earth become as one

Don’t miss the dew kissed flowers,

Reaching toward the sky

You slumber as the world around you wakes;

Awake sweet child open your eyes

The sky is filled with colors

Once only known to the sacred rainbow

Brilliant, dazzling colors

They dance across the sky, going to and fro

A whispering of a cloud, lazily passing you by

Oh sweet child don’t miss this dawn,

It’s the only of its kind

Arise sweet child, days of innocence are numbered

Oh how they pass us by

Not much longer can we play

Freely soaring with the wind upon the sky

Oh quickly now, child the sun is upon our brows

Peeking over the horizon its rays call out to you

 “Come now!”

Arise sweet child, day has begun

I wrote this for my children who are growing up much too fast. They do not realize the too few short days we have just to play & be free like the wind!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
