Early Morning Pain

Early Morning Pain

Sad green eyes, train wreck of surprise

                Shattered dreams, shattered lives

No one hears your secret cries

Hateful words cut so deep

Into your veins they start to seep

What happened to “To have and to keep”?

Sad brown eyes, so filled with pain

Cannot hide the hurt or shame

Heart in throat, once more abstain

Words cause a ripple effect through the air

Followed by a tidal wave of despair

What happened to the love we share?

Anger dissipates, but hurt remains

Tears fall through the pouring rain

                                Thunder rolls again and again

Cannot sleep through this early morning pain

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
