    DEMON'S ROW

    DEMON'S ROW

Dragons roam freely in my world
Fed by drugs that consume my mind
Dark shadows creep in as a reminder
Of the life I am leaving behind

Prisons built deep in my conscience
Leaving scores of scars on my heart
This hold will never release me
Addiction makes sure we stay apart

The Devil feasts upon my thoughts
Begging me to take more of his candy
Willing to make trade for all I possess
My Soul will come in very handy

    Dreaming of a psychedelic journey
    Darkness dances whilst I'm sleeping
Fueled by madness burning deep within
Behold, I sense death slowly creeping

Angels, please lift me to safer grounds
Drugs are not my seed to sow
I need to be where my vision's clear
I shall not join the Demon's Row

"Drugs Are the curse used to escape the habit of living, until the escape becomes the habit"

This was terrific. I encouraged a good friend to write poetry once but had no idea he had kicked crack-cocaine at the time. This poem reminded me of the one he wrote. It has a steady meter, great message, strong emotions and is altogether a powerful write.

Nicely done. An honest disclosure of the journey that is drug addiction concluded with a plea for release.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
