Destiny's Promise

Destiny's Promise

Destiny has not promised us a life without pain...
A life of roses, without problems along the way.
Destiny has promised us we have much to gain...
If we set our goals, and work hard every day.

Destiny has not promised us a life without fears...
A life of sunshine, without a degree of shade.
Destiny though...promises fewer tears...
If we roll our dice, before our dreams fade.

Destiny has not promised us we shall never fail...
For sometimes we must gamble, in order to receive.
Destiny has promised we shall eventually prevail...
If we have the courage to dream, the wisdom to believe.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
