    Gain and Lost

    Cold and insensible
    She lied there in form,
    Having a vaguely pallid tent
    To her skin;
    Brown and warm.

    The world died with her
    As it all stood in place.
    My hand quivered as I touched her
    With that smile upon her face.

    I wish I could’ve said something;
    Gave her soul a smiling wave.
    But all was left was her shell
    Descending to its grave.

    No more tears are shed,
    Lying in this bed,
    Lying, with a shiver.
    She is living for eternity,
    But part of me died with her.

    In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
