The Whisper

The Whisper

I hear a whisper
Sincerely breathing in my ear.
It is a demonic, freezing whisper;
My God, it’s all I hear.

Here, filled with fright,
Lust dwells within me dear.
Blasphemous pride roams intensely,
And the sin is all I hear.
With this gift,
I search to see
And hope to be something against fatal odds.
With this flesh,
I yearn to be
A king, if not, a god.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
