    I am Not Alone

    I felt alone,
    I was alone.
    Unhappiness adorned me
    like a darkened shroud.

    I searched for an end
    to this darkened
    place that I
    could not escape.

    I found a hand
like a beacon in the night.
    I reached for it
I clasped it in my hands.

    I was not alone.
    i did not feel alone.
    But i was still
    very much alone.

    The hand held tightly.
    It did not let go.
    I pulled away.
    Why did I do that?

    A gentle caress
    and my hand held tight.
    I could not escape it.
    But I tried.

    I need that hand though.
I am still in this place.
    I treasure that hold
    and the hope it brought.

    I reach for more and
    find that I have lost
    as the hand withdraws.
    My foolish folly.

    I walk silently
    through my self made fog
    I hear laughter,
I see life and I see me.

I reach out into the light
    and touch again
    gently upon fingers
    still warm from my release.

    Will they remember
    the touch of me,
    the warmth they gave,
    the love they foretold.

    I yearn for their
    grasp and unconditional hold
    The love promised and
    the strength to love.

    The hand holds fast
    I no longer withdraw.
    I surrender and grow
    and am alive again.

    I am not alone.
    I am alive
    and I will walk
    no more in this fog.

Hi Gabrielle. A thoughtful response to a familiar problem. Loneliness continues, of course, but it need not always be dark.

I enjoyed it. we all become lonesome from time to time. but out in the world there are thousands like us who need to be comforted. our experience, helps us to understand them. the Creator is always with us. a 1 0 from me.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
