    Poem Commentary

This was written when first alone as
I could not sleep but began to see
the night for what it was and
did embrace it at times and yes,
i did accept it finally as a friend.
    I did need it.

    Night

    It haunts me,
    enthralls yet scares me.

    I cannot escape it.
But I do not want to, I need it.

    It's coming and I can't stop it,
delay it or even ignore it.

At times I yearn for its sweet touch,
    its soothing embrace.

But it leaves me - always alone,
    wanting more.

I do not love or hate it.
    I just accept it.

    It is Night.

this is a classic thought. i do love the emotion you put into it. maybe some metaphors and a bunch of other razzle dazzle could of made this thought your own. but i do love the place this poem put me. very good job especially on the flow.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
