    I Love You

I know from the other day
You told me those three words
    I ever long to hear
    I love you.
I love you for those tears you wipe
    off my face
I love you for those warm tender embrace.
I love you for even those warm hands
    That stroke my aching back
I love you for even those things you lack.
I love you for all your flaws,
I love you even if you pause
to hold me or tell me
    forget your fears,
and still continue to love me
    just as I am.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
