IT'S ONLY PRETEND

IT'S ONLY PRETEND

Perhaps if I am silent
you will hear the wings flapping
...The terror of a trapped dove...
Where is the love in this?

The kiss is meaningless
if you don't bother to look deeper
You became my keeper
the first time you pierced my heart
I bled
and the rest can be said simply

There have been permanent scars
  that will never heal
Do you feel any of this
  in the air?
It's there
  all the time
This misery
I must claim as mine
  follows in the shadows
even as I try to escape
The rape of myself
  came stronger and harder
  than the initial pain
Still, I remain
  to bleed it out

Blood has always been the cure
No matter how much we burn up the necessary fuel

The rules changed -- again

And pretend
  is Dorothy
  or Alice
or anywhere it doesn't hurt so much

thanks so much and for accepting my friend request.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
