Just Imagine
There was a time
When you were happy.
So was I.
We were excited simply to see and be with one another.
We
Were
In love.
I try to imagine the time
Those moments
When we awoke no words passed between us.
Only passion
To go with that cup of coffee we would share.
I could never have imagined
This time.
When we awake and
Do not speak
Realizing our moods will cause
Frustration and tension.
Perhaps tension caused by too much life?
Or too little of the right kind?
Waking up this morning
Dreading what lay ahead this day
Trying hard to hide my sadness
I join you for coffee.
We continue our lie
With flat good mornings.
I weep silent tears into my cup instead of sweet cream.
A 'Less Said the Better' time.
As I leave for my day
Sullen, contained
I imagine all might be different.
You could throw your arms around me
Try to seduce me back to bed.
Or tell me you're packing your bags.
One way or the other
All would be different.
Truth prevails.
Both of us sentenced to a lifetime of
One constant big lie
Would be free.
Just imagine.
