    Lesson Of Spirit

    Lessons of Spirit
    In memory of HEATHER SHILO 5/1/97 – 4/27/06

    I can find you here.
    In the silence, if I listen.
    We would walk here often.
    You were always by my side.
    One with me in thought,
    You were full of love and pride.
    I was always in a hurry, briskly I would walk.
    You’d stop me in mid canter.
    I’d pull you right along.
    I would refuse to listen,
    Not hearing your love song.
    You called me here today.
    Today I choose to listen.
    For the loss of your spirit,
    Leaves me with an empty heart;
    Empty like an abyss, void of life, at your depart.
    You called me here today;
    Back to this familiar place where we could meet.
    You are asking me to feel;
    The softness of the sand and ground beneath my feet,
    To smell the richness of the soil, the crisp sweet salty air;
    You ask I set you free to explore the wonders dwelling there.
    Yesterday, I silenced restricting pain placed upon your soul.
    Today, I chose to walk and run with you, to let my life unfold.
    I feel the gentle breeze like your breath warm upon my face,
    In the melody of the birds I hear you speak your silent grace.
    The time had come my lesson learned.
    It was time for you to pass.
    Unselfishly you loved me with a spirit so un-daunting,
    If only to bring me home, to myself at last.
    Today I walk my Heather, but not with leash in hand.
    Today I know I walk not alone, I be a wiser woman.

    Absolutely beautiful!

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
