LIMBER

You think I did this all on my own?
I must be pretty handy with a knife
To tear two gaps this deep.
Must be all those years of
non-existent training.
Because I swear I couldn't do this alone.
But you and your grudge
are not at fault here.
Do you not think that it's quite a stretch?
I must be pretty flexible.
Limber enough to reach.
Because I swear I couldn't do it to myself.
I'll take credit if that's what you need.
But just know I can't touch
The center of my back
where the hole was torn.

almost like a hard-metal song. violent - vulnerable, deeply hurting, deeply felt. almost pleading to a father?mother?(authoritarian) figure that we all try to please - very freudian is how i read it. little-awkward in places, overall good effect.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
