    Poem Commentary

Growing up, I felt alone.  With six brothers and sisters, it was very lonely.  I tried to runaway several times - never made it far - always came home, sometimes with my parents thinking I had just broke curfew.  Listening to my teens now, they echo some of the same lonliness at times and threaten to run themselves when their father, in their minds is being unreasonable.  To the children that do run and don't come back - I pray they have their guarding angels close and find their way home - to someplace safe themselves.

    Lonely

    In the night you left.
    so quiet no one heard.
    invisible you felt.
    why anyone cared, they should.

    you ran, dear heart.
far away so you couldn't hurt.
your tears dried up long ago.
no more to fall a long way to go.

    No one knew your lonliness
    No one heard your words
    Too busy in our lives
We were blind and deaf to you

    Stop running precious one.
We cry for you, we hurt for you.
You are always in our heart, never to shun.
Come home, we wait for you.

your poem has really touched me. My life in its self has been filled with lots of hurt and tragedy. Sometimes still as an adult I find myself wanting to run and hide. I have two children now of my own and I hope and pray that they never feel lonley or feel as if no on cares. As a single mother now and once child myself I have always felt lonley. Thank you for the poem. I truly send you all my sympathy and hope and pray that lonliness never touches you again

Thank you. I've learned since then that it only takes one to stop and listen. It makes a world of difference.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
